THE
HOROSCOPE
An astrological
horoscope is a chart mapping the positions of the sun,
moon, planets, astrological aspects and angles with
respect to a certain point in time. Using this chart,
astrologers make predictions about what the future holds
for people based on their birth date. These forecasts are
published in newspapers and magazines all over the world
and attract a huge readership.
The word horoscope, when traced back to its
Greek origins, consists of two words: “hour” (or
“season”) and “observer”. Horoscopic astrology is the
most popular form of astrology in many parts of the world
and can be divided into four branches according to the
information being sought. Natal astrology seeks information about an
individual and his or her life experience, katarchic
astrology seeks information about past events and those
planned for the future, horary astrology seeks to answer
a question based on the current horoscope chart, and
mundane (or world) astrology seeks information about
world events.
Astrology is a collection of traditions and
beliefs dating back to ancient times, its premise being
that the planets 'and stars ' positions relative to each other can reveal
information about people and earthly affairs. Ever since
it came about c. 3000 BC it 's played a central role in important world
civilizations, including that of the Babylonians,
Egyptians, Greeks, Mayans and Aztecs.
It 's also an important precursor to the
scientific discipline of
astronomy.
